Luigi "Gigi" Radice got his start in pipes working in the Castello factory, not far from his home in Cucciago, Italy. Carlo Scotti (founder of Castello), who many consider to be the father of modern Italian pipe design, no doubt had a profound influenece on Radice and the many other pipemakers who got their start at Castello. Radice, always an innovator, eventually left Castello to make a name for himself in the pipe world. He later started the Caminetto brand with fellow Castello employee Pepino Ascorti in 1968.
